Why Venture Capital?

I’ve been an operator at venture-backed startups for the past 20 years and have invested as an angel for about the last 10. I appreciate the positive impact that good venture investment can have. Having done some work with one of their portfolio companies, I’ve experienced the value that Costanoa brings to the people they invest in. And it turns out that my first angel investment was in a company started by two co-founders who just recently received seed funding from Costanoa.

I was GM of Things to Do at Groupon where I spent seven years starting, building and scaling the events and activities business. In that role, I managed a JV between Live Nation/Ticketmaster and Groupon, and we developed solid partnerships with major sports leagues, family entertainment producers, Broadway theater owners and a number of other groups. Before that, I had joined several other early-stage startups where I worked closely with great founders across multiple industries.

Outside of Work

Spending time with my wife and our two sons, often coaching their sports. Otherwise, having recently moved from Chicago to Northern CA, I’m just trying to get used to the rough weather.
